Common Platform Requirements

LINA 1.00beta1 replaces any older version of LINA so previous copies must be completely removed. See the "Cleaning Up" section appropriate to your platform (below) for detailed instructions. If any of the following requirements are not met, various failures may occur and will likely continue until these minimum requirements are met.

RAM: We test all host systems with a minimum of 1 GB RAM for Linux and Mac systems, and 1.5 GB RAM for Windows systems. The LINA virtual disk that runs on Windows and Mac is configured to use 384 MB RAM. Adding web apps may increase this RAM to 512MB or more.

Disk space: In addition to the 200 to 350 MB of disk space needed to download the LINA installer, an additional 1 GB minimum is required for unpacking and installing LINA. That space can be re-used after installation is complete. Applications will require additional disk space, not included here.

Internet access: An internet connection is not required during the LINA installation process once the download has completed. Any subsequent updates or application installs will require a connection.

Virus protection: On all systems you may need to disable any virus protection software before beginning the installation. The LINA downloads have been scanned for viruses and present no risk to your system during installation. AVG anit-virus software showed a false positive with a previous version of LINA but this has been corrected.

If LINA is reinstalled any LINA applications must also be reinstalled. With our next release we will include a mechnism for migrating any data stored in LINA databases to the new installation.
