[edit] Introduction

Over the next week, we will be testing a series of betas up to the 0.72 release. Each of these betas will test new features of LINA as we merge in code. The first beta will test that a basic LINA install works and that a simple application correctly starts on LINA.

Your participation in this testing process is greatly appreciated. Instructions for downloading LINA and participating in the test appear below.

[edit] Installation Notes

In order to run LINA 0.72 on Linux, you must have SE Linux disabled (this primarily affects Fedora installs). This will no longer be necessary after the LINA 0.9 release.

[edit] Supported Distros

LINA 0.72 Beta03 is available for the following Linux distributions:

  • Fedora7
  • Fedora8
  • Ubuntu7.04
  • Ubuntu7.10

In the coming days, we will be providing installers for OpenSUSE10.2, OpenSUSE10.3, and PCLinuxOS.

[edit] Download

First download the appropriate LINA installer to your desktop from our download page.

[edit] Installing LINA - the short version

Open a terminal window, cd to the directory where you downloaded the LINA installer. First make the LINA installer executable as follows:

chmod a+x LINA-for-fedora-7-x86-32.sh

then type the following at the command line to get it started:

sudo ./LINA-for-fedora-7-x86-32.sh

Use the proper name for your own installer, of course!

An installer GUI will appear. Click through it.

The LINA install will take some time as is downloads the ~100MB LINA runtime environment. The size of the download will be greatly reduced by the time of our next major release.

The install might appear to freeze at one point as it is setting up LINA. Please be patient with it, maybe get some coffee or something. This feature will be removed in the official 0.72 release.

Once LINA is installed, you are ready to install a LINA application.

[edit] Installing LINA - the details

The section will walk you through the process of installing LINA on Linux using one of the installers. Thank you for participating in this test -- your feedback is greatly appreciated.

To begin, open a terminal and start the installation process as root as below:

This should pop up the following welcome page:

Click "Continue" to go to the license page.

Click "Next" and "Accept" the license to go to start the LINA install.

The LINA install will take some time because it downloads the ~100MB LINA runtime environment. We will make this download much shorter before the 0.90 release.

The install might appear to freeze at one point as it is setting up LINA. Please enjoy this opportunity to take a break from installing LINA. We will remove this feature before the official 0.72 release.

LINA is now installed. Click "Finish" to finish the install.

Once LINA is installed, you are ready to install a LINA application.

[edit] Giving us feedback

Thank you for helping us test this beta release. It helps us immensely to know that LINA and LINA applications can be installed on machines in the wild.

If you encountered any errors during your install, please post them on the Open LINA forum located at www.openlina.org/forum/ or to the Open LINA mailing list located at [www.openlina.org/mailman/listinfo/lina-dev/].

If something fails to work, we would greatly appreciate receiving your the lina.log file located on your computer in the /usr/lina/log/ directory.
